Railing thru Europe: Stop 4.1 Italy – Milan

The city of Ventimiglia is about 7km from the French/Italian border and as there isn’t  a direct train from Nice to Milan, we were required to transit from here though if time permits we would have love to explore this city as well. Unfortunately, our train would be leaving in about 20 mins and we only just have enough time to grab a quick meal before departing for Milan.

Milano Centrale railway station - it is one of Italy's busiest train stations and also one of the main European railway stations.

From the railway station, we took the metro to our hotel located near the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium or more commonly known as the San Siro Stadium. It is home to 2 of Italy’s 2 biggest teams in the Serie A (Italian football league).

The famed San Siro Stadium

They had a play held here the previous night and were still removing the props and stage equipments

As the stadium is shared by both AC Milan and Internazionale both teams have their own dressing rooms as well as a visiting team dressing room.

very cool leather seats!

AC Milan’s dressing room seems more vibrant and has a strong feel of the club’s colours and brand compared to Inter’s bare essential. I felt maybe by displaying commemorative plaques of titles won, the Club’s crest and black and white pictures of past champions, Inter was trying to get the players to focus on their jobs. Well that certainly worked!

After the stadium tour ended we proceded with the museum tour for both of the clubs. Predictably, the museum was divided into 2 sides, the left for AC Milan while the right was Inter. But right smack at the entrance was Inter’s Champions League Trophy.

Fans of Milan would definitely know the trio of Gullit, Van Basten and Rijkaard

2 jerseys of Roberto Baggio combined.

Santa Maria delle Grazie - contains the original mural painting of the Last Supper by Leonardo Da Vinci

Tickets to see the mural were really hard to come by, and its sold out for the next 2 weeks! If anyone of you wants to see it, your best bet would be to prebook your tickets at least a few weeks in advance to get your prefered timing!

A 15mins walk away is the hugh Castello Sforzesco. It is one of the largest citadels in Europe and now houses several museums within its location.

Duomo di Milano - It is supposedly the fourth largest church in the world

As we were heading towards the Teatro alla Scala we noticed some event taking place with barricades and many people with black suit and ties. This is Milan anyway so it could be some big function and some major celebrities could be turning up. Curious to find out what it was we decided to stay just a little longer and we found out that Dolce and Gabbana  were celebrating their 20 anniversary menswear collection!

Many men in black... probably ushers or security personnel

We waited for quite a bit as many people started coming down the red carpet, fashion designers, people from the media from all over the world. Our wait was well worth it as we saw stars like Matthew McConaughey & Camila Alves, Morgan Freeman, Rachel Weisz, Monica Belluci, Eva Herzigova and even Alexandre Pato! However my only regret was not getting a picture of Annie Lennox!

That’s it from the Fashion Capital of Milan! Next stop, back to 1 of our favourite cities – Florence

No, I’m afraid its not. It is the Interior of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II; a huge shopping arcade located beside the Duomo in Milan.
